Prof. Dr. Reem Hamdy

Professor of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology

Biography

Dr Reem Hamdy is a professor of rheumatology and clinical immunology, graduated from and works at the Kasr Alainy school of medicine, Cairo University. Dr Reem has delivered teaching and training to Egyptian and international visiting medical students in the field of rheumatology and clinical immunology, musculoskeletal ultrasonography and diagnostic and therapeutic interventional rheumatology.

Professor Hamdy was the first medical professor to introduce, design and train a course on the 'establishment of the evidence-based strategy in medical research and practice' at the faculty leadership development center, Cairo university. Professor Reem is an active board member of the AFLAR, and a trainer in the AFLAR teach initiative. She is the first female international advisor for the Royal College of Physicians in Egypt.

Professor Hamdy is a leader for multiple research teams and training teams in the field of rheumatology training and research (founder of the Women in rheumatology research and training group). She is an editor and reviewer for several international medical journals and publishers. Dr Reem is also an advisory board member in several influential journals, author and co-author of publications, and an international speaker in the field of rheumatology and immunology.

Contributions to Teaching and Training

• • Designer and trainer of the "Evidence based strategy in medical research and practice postdoctoral training workshop" for the faculty leadership development center Cairo University.
• • Rheumatology research training and mentorship for the African League of associations in rheumatology (AFLAR Teach Initiative).

Dr. Ahmed Safwat

Healthcare Strategist & Executive Leader

Biography

Dr. Ahmed Safwat is an internationally recognized healthcare strategist and executive leader with over 25 years of experience driving clinical governance, accreditation, quality management, system-wide transformation and healthcare business across Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the broader MENA region.

He currently serves as Managing Partner and Board Member of the Healthcare International Group (HCI), which oversees a huge network of clinics, urgent-care centers, medical centers, wellness centers and hospitals. In parallel, he chairs the Accreditation&Quality Committee for the Urgent Care Association of America's MENA Chapter, the Strategic Planning Committee of the African Healthcare&Drug Association, and the Egyptian Green Award in Pharmacy Practice (EGAPP). He also contributes as a Board Member of the Egyptian Council for Patient Advocates and as an Adjunct Professor at the American University in Cairo, teaching courses in hospital management, quality excellence and operational leadership.

Previously, Dr. Safwat was a founding board member of Egypt's General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation & Regulation (GAHAR), where he led the Supreme Committee that developed the country's first internationally-accredited healthcare standards. He chaired the national task force—partnering with WHO, the Ministry of Health and key regulatory bodies—to craft Egypt's comprehensive Telemedicine Framework and corresponding draft legislation. He also advised Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Health on its National Clinical Excellence Program, establishing governance structures and clinical audit standards.
